Urban Aristotle questioned: I ran out of money during our new renovation of our family room. I wanted a fireplace but now I can’t afford one. We have a gorgeous small one that we use on the patio. Could I bring that one in and use it if we keep the windows open while it’s lit?

Amber K questioned: I know you’re supposed to get someone to come in and clean the fireplace out because it can cause fires but I don’t know how often and I don’t want to question a company because they’ll probably tell me whatever is going to benefit them most. My ancient house caught on fire because of it (this was during the previous owner’s ownership) but fortunately only that room was terribly hurt because the fire company arrived very quickly (the house is right next to a state park). Anyhow any thoughts would be appreciated…Thanks!

JN questioned: Long tale small….I forgot to open the vent. My husband has banned me from starting any more fires in the fire place. But he will still use it. What steps do I need to take to ensure it is safe to use the fireplace again (besides open the vent)?

sweet girl questioned: Hi! Just went into my first home, and it has a fireplace. We were wondering how much heat does a fireplace really give off in the winter and will it be enough to heat at least the surrounding room? Sorry if its a stupid question, weve never had a fireplace before though, thanks!
Nate, lol….I know it sounds like a stupid question, obviously I know it was made to place out heat and not for show, I was wondering how much heat it would place out, enough to heat the entire room and surrounding area or just immediate area

AV questioned: My bathroom is small and no space is available to borrow from anywhere else. I want to remodel the bathroom where the bathtub (not sunken) is next to the wall that divides the bathroom and master bedroom. That dividing wall is where I want to place the fireplace. Is that possible? Since the tub is high, the fireplace will be at a high level on the bath side. But how does one raise the firebox level on the bedroom side?

lisalou questioned: We have lived in our house for some time now but never used the fireplace. In fact, the fireplace has never been used before. I don’t want to burn my house down. I have never been very excellent at building fires. What things do I need? Thanks!
