Being concerned, I asked the contractor about replacing it with a masonary firebox and chimney if there proved to be meld or damage upon inspection. I'm in SoCal and was shocked that he said between $10,000-12,000. But, our chimney is internal (between the floors and walls) so it would require major reconstruction to accomplish. Yolanda
