How do you clean the inside of glass of fireplace doors?

maidenlexey questioned:

I have went into a house that has a fireplace, but the people who lived here before did not clean it, and the glass windows are nearly black. When the doors are open they fold together, making it hard to clean the inside of them. I want to know if there is some way to unhook the door so I can clean inside.

Here’s a link that should tell you what you wish to know about cleaning the glass doors on your fireplace. I would reckon though, that these glass doors should be able to went away from the fireplace for simpler cleaning. Usually the doors that prevent sparks from getting into a room just sit in front of the hearth. If your doors are different and are hard to clean, this is likely why they are in the condition you found them. Excellent luck and here’s the link..http://www.ehow.com/how_4778200_clean-fireplace-glass.html

LOL, I learned how to do it from my chimney sweep because I couldn’t get the doors to unlatch. On mine, open one side all of the way. Open the other side so that it is partially open, push down from the top and there is a small nub that rides along a track that will release below the track. Then the door swings out at the side of the firebox and the inside can be cleaned. Both sides work the same way.

Read Eskie’s answer on how to open the doors. Use oven cleaner to clean the glass.
