How do I light the fireplace in my apartment?

fireplace
konshesgirl questioned:

I have a gas fireplace in my apartment and I’m terrified of blowing myself up! What’s the safest way to re-light the pilot? There are no instructions anywhere but there is an off/on button and some scary looking knobs at the bottom.

Thanks!

Its nearly summertime. Why would you want more heat? You must be in a god forsaken opposite world or something, huh.

Since I’ve only used wood-burning fireplaces, I can’t help you, except to say that you should question your landlord or super. There are so many different models, and people here may not be familiar with the one you have.

it should be safe to light, the knobs are probably for the on/off and how high the flame will go, gas only comes in at about 1lb. psi

should be a switch to turn it on near it or under it. then a knob to turn flame up/dn and should be a red push button to spark it. pilot should light with or without switch on.

if you look at the knob it should say pilot on it somewhere turn the knob to pilot and push in on the knob hold it in and light the pilot at the same time after pilot is burning continue to hold knob in till thermocouple gets hot about 30 secs ,slowly let out on knob pilot should stay lit, now slowly turn knob to the ON position and logs should come on
on by the way gas comes in 4 psi

A huge thumbs up to Paradise, his answer is exactly right. And if you’re more comfortable, turn the switch off before you light the pilot so that it won’t come on when you turn the switch to “on”.
