Where can I find canned gel fuel for a fireplace without having to buy an entire case?

Saturday, December 12th, 2009
SatieG questioned:

I just bought a ventless fireplace unit which uses gel fuel. I have searched online to order some, but everyone sells it in cases of 24 for $79. I really will only use it on the holidays and on occasion, so I don’t need all that. Does anyone know where I can buy a smaller case? Do any major retail stores or online sites offer this?

How much does it cost to Build a woodburning fireplace?

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009
gobern26 questioned:

We found the perfect home in Buford, GA -but it does not have the wood-burning fireplace that I’ve always wanted. Gas, electric will not do. We figured we knock a hole in it and install a wood-burner. Feasible? If so, how much should I budget for it? Who should I get to do the work for me, what kind of professional?

What is the ring on the side of this fireplace for?

Thursday, October 1st, 2009
Miakoda questioned:

The fireplace in the apartment I am hoping to go to has a ring embedded in the side, inside the firebox. What is that ring for? It appears to be QUITE strong.
It’s not a knob, and it’s certainly not a shut off. It’s IN the fireplace, on the side of the place where the burning wood goes.

How can I build a fireplace in a cabin with no permanent foundation?

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

magefire77 questioned:

I’m looking to build a cabin that can be classified as a “movable structure”, with no permanent foundation, just set on cinderblocks. But I want to place in a fieldstone fireplace to heat it on cold autumn/winter nights. Is this possible, and if so, how would I go about it?

Why does my fireplace burn wood so quickly? It’s a HomeFire product same as a jetmaster?

nickyglh questioned:

I have a built in open fireplace and recently it’s begun to burn through the wood so so quickly. (tested different log types) . It can burn through a log basket 60cm x 40cm in just a couple of hours -that’s about 50 or so logs. There is a lever on the right which moves the “flap” (can’t reckon of a better word) at the opening of the chimney to wide or narrow. I tested both wide and narrow but no obvious change. It’s really burnt through sections of the fire grate. How do I find more info on how quick or slow it should burn etc etc. Aside from log types, what else may cause the fire to burn so quickly?

How much does a fireplace actually heat your home, will it emit enough heat to keep surrounding area warm?

sweet girl questioned:

Hi! Just went into my first home, and it has a fireplace. We were wondering how much heat does a fireplace really give off in the winter and will it be enough to heat at least the surrounding room? Sorry if its a stupid question, weve never had a fireplace before though, thanks!
Nate, lol….I know it sounds like a stupid question, obviously I know it was made to place out heat and not for show, I was wondering how much heat it would place out, enough to heat the entire room and surrounding area or just immediate area

Why does the wood in our fireplace not burn all the way?

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

wawawebis questioned:

We bought some wood that is “hardwood” – I reckon it is mostly very hard cherry. It is dried, some might be still cut from this year though. When we burn it, it looks nice for awhile then it burns out and leaves logs that are just charred and black. Why? What should we do? Do we need to mix in other types of less hard wood or something? What is the way to get the best use of our firewood…obviously this is our first fireplace so any excellent tips are welcome.
