GutsiePerson questioned: The room is very small and the fireplace makes it kind of dark. The crown molding matches the mantel and is also dark oak. Would you paint it white to lighten up the room or would that hurt the value of the house? Would really like to hear from people in the field who know about values of homes.

zurc137 questioned: The house is 158 years ancient built like a tank but some things were negelected (fireplace) they even went so far as once having a hole (poor patch job now) for a flue from a stove going through the overmantle (idiots). So if you are going to use a scale for pricing, lean on the higher end.

Joel B questioned: Im a pretty handy do it your self home owner who is not worried to tackle much. But staining my fireplace is something that I can’t undo if i ***** it up.
I have a white cast stone fireplace surround that we want to stain with a dark redish/brown stain to give it a real rich Tuscan feel.
I know that Kemco makes concrete stains, but im not sure how to apply it to give that faux look which lits of texture and variations so that it really looks like an ancient aged fireplace.
Any thoughts?

Lucy E questioned: Not much natural light comes into the room so I want to brighten it up a bit. What color would do that and match the fireplace and hardwood floor? The only color I can reckon of is white but I want to be a bit more adventurous than that!
Thanks!

windyy questioned: I am going to replace a prefab fireplace box. I need to remove the marble that surrounds the existing one. I was plotting on using
piano wire to cut the adhesive holding the marble to the fireplace box.
Is there a better way?
I stuck my pocket knife behind the marble into the adhesive. It felt
like it was still pliable. It appears
that whoever installed it used the
least amount of adhesive they could.

E-Lo questioned: I have a fireplace with ancient stone on it, and want to take that off and build a floor to ceiling fireplace, maybe using tiles (ceramic). Does anyone have any thoughts or pictures of their own of something that’s not cheap, but not overly expensive either?
I have searched google, and only get the ancient style mantel fireplace images.

Urban Aristotle questioned: I ran out of money during our new renovation of our family room. I wanted a fireplace but now I can’t afford one. We have a gorgeous small one that we use on the patio. Could I bring that one in and use it if we keep the windows open while it’s lit?

kelly-il questioned: So we just bought a flat screen t.v. I’m not into the giant t.v.s but we bought a 42 inch – which is huge enough. We could place it on a stand or we could place it above our fireplace. I want to have it on a wall (fireplace) instead of a stand, for space issues. My husband said you can’t place it about the fireplace because people don’t want to look up at the screen from a sitting position. What do you reckon? Where is the best place.

Terry questioned: I am building a new house in Ohio. I have excellent access to wood but I do not want to take hassle of handling wood. What kind of file place should I build to get the best resale value when I sell the House. Wood, electric or gas and vented or vent free. Also I already built the chimney because I had wood fireplace in my mind when I started building the house. Your suggestions will be appreciated.
