How can I get the flames in my electric fireplace to work again?

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009
chrys_folly questioned:

My electric fireplace gives off heat, the fan works but the flames won’t flicker and go anymore. They just look like they are frozen in time. Any thoughts on how to get them moving?

Can I remove my gas logs and make my fireplace wood burning?

Friday, December 25th, 2009
Mike Hunt questioned:

I never use my gas fireplace because of the cost of natural gas but I want to take my gas logs out, shut off the gas and make it wood burning. Is that possible/safe? It is an all brick fireplace and chimney. It has a honestly large flue so I reckon it could accomodate the smoke. Has anyone done this with a fireplace that was built as gas?

Thinking about having a propane gas fireplace installed in place of my ancient wood burning fireplace. What is the typical cost to do this? I already have propane gas at the house.

I’m looking for an electric fireplace, in oak color, and I was wondering if anyone knows of a excellent website that sells them for about $200? I’ve looked at sears, walmart, target, kmart, homedepot, and then don’t really have any…….If anyone knows of a different website, please let me know.
THANK!!

Crystal M questioned:

I have 2 thermostats in my home and one works and warms our house. The other is right next to our fireplace (which I am assuming is electric) and does nothing when I turn it on. What is the problem?

How to install a heavyweight barn beam as a fireplace mantel?

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009
Your honor, your Honor questioned:

I have received an ancient hand hewn barn beam of white oak I want to attach to studded drywall above a gas fireplace. The beam is 10″ x 6″ x 6′ and weighs in excess of 135lbs.What would be a excellent way to anchor this to the wall with preferrably nothing showing? The weight, obviously concerns me. I plot on using a stone veneer around the mantel once it is installed.

How do you clean the inside of glass of fireplace doors?

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009
maidenlexey questioned:

I have went into a house that has a fireplace, but the people who lived here before did not clean it, and the glass windows are nearly black. When the doors are open they fold together, making it hard to clean the inside of them. I want to know if there is some way to unhook the door so I can clean inside.

How do you remove animal urine stains from fireplace brick?

Saturday, December 12th, 2009
s s questioned:

My bunny apparently used the bathroom on the brick in front of the fireplace and it dried before I realized she’d done it.
I have tried cleaning it with vinegar and water, then 409, and also with dawn dish liguid getergent and a firm scrub brush.
Nothing has worked. It looks like the stain has set in and changed the color of the brick.
Can anyone tell me how to clean this back to normal?
