Fireplace currently is wood burning or gas (propane fueled) with key valve in place. It has a log lighter in the actual fireplace. I need to replace or convert the log lighter to accept the propane burner. Thank you.

How often should I have my fireplace and chimney cleaned out?

I had it done in December. It’s a wood burning fireplace. I do not use it as a primary source of heating. It’s really for aesthetic purposes only. Should I get it cleaned once a year?

How do you clean the brick on a fireplace?

E W questioned:

What products have you used to clean the brick on a fireplace? I’ve tried researching different products on line and they all sound the same, just different methods and prices. Have you cleaned the dark brick on your fireplace? If so, what did you use, how did you do it, and did it work? Any suggestions or comments are welcome!

How to change the facade of a wood burning fireplace?

bookworm questioned:

Unfortunately, I have a wood burning fireplace in my living room instead of a traditional fireplace. I like the look of the fireplace itself, but there is stone all on the wall behind it which limits what I can do color wise with the room. (I prefer color – not beige, which is all I can really use) There is also the stone encircling the fireplace on the floor.

Can I place some kind of drywall or plaster to cover up the stone, and still be able to use the fireplace safely? I would like a clean, solid look.

Why does my gas fireplace make a “drumroll rattle” sound periodically when it is not running?

Kim S questioned:

We have lived in the house six weeks or so, it was built in ‘94. This is a gas insert in a real fireplace (we have a chimney)…the pilot light is always on.

It very irregularly (like once a week or less) does this weird thing where it starts to make a drumroll or machine gun noise for about two seconds then stops. It continues to do this at irregular intervals until we turn the fireplace on and run it a while. Then it stops again for a week or more before it starts again….what gives? Is there air in the line or something? I am going to call the gas company but wondered if anyone heard of this happening before. It drives my dog crazy. She thinks there’s some critter in there!
Nope, it is not windy. Nope, it’s not a woodpecker. It’s very loud and coming from the pipe area.
