Hi-I have a fireplace. I was wondering if anyone knows of any home concocktions to clean the stone in the front of the fireplace. I know there are things that can be bought, but if there’s something I can do, let me know!

I have a gas fireplace in my apartment and I’m terrified of blowing myself up! What’s the safest way to re-light the pilot? There are no instructions anywhere but there is an off/on button and some scary looking knobs at the bottom.

Thanks!

I am going to replace a prefab fireplace box. I need to remove the marble that surrounds the existing one. I was planning on using
piano wire to cut the adhesive holding the marble to the fireplace box.
Is there a better way?
I stuck my pocket knife behind the marble into the adhesive. It felt
like it was still pliable. It appears
that whoever installed it used the
least amount of adhesive they could.

I am working on building a fireplace mantel. I took out the old cedar that surrounded the bricks. I was using the instructions on the DIY website but can’t see the pictures that well and the instructions aren’t that detailed. The demensions are 67.5″ wide by 44″ tall for the bricks. the brick platform in front of the fireplace is same width as the fireplace with no extra brick on the side. My question is what is the easiest way to do a decent mantel? anywhere I should look that I haven’t tried yet?

E-Lo asked:

I have a fireplace with old stone on it, and want to take that off and build a floor to ceiling fireplace, maybe using tiles (ceramic). Does anyone have any ideas or pictures of their own of something that’s not cheap, but not overly expensive either?

I have searched google, and only get the old style mantel fireplace images.

I ran out of money during our new renovation of our family room. I wanted a fireplace but now I can’t afford one. We have a beautiful little one that we use on the patio. Could I bring that one in and use it if we keep the windows open while it’s lit?
